Wendy Freedman the teacher turned poker pro got her hands, or should we say fingers, on a WSOP ring this week. She has been so close a few times, finishing in second place twice this season but she managed to do it this time round beating off some tough competition in a hard fought and dramatic final session that saw former champion Tom Masinter finish in second place. The WSOP circuit event took place at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles and it saw Freedman dominate in the latter stages earning her place in the heads up finale. With more than a few supporters cheering her on she won the $580 buy in, seeing of the field of 167 entrants to take home a cool $22,545 in prize money, and most importantly the coveted gold ring. She was left stuck for words directly after the win but did manage to say that, 'I really thought this was a tough final table and to be sitting here now is thrilling for me'. We are now at the midway point of the season and the intense heads up session at the Bicycle that last for 3.5 hours added to Freedman's impressive recent outings. At the Horseshoe Hammond back in November she came second in a gold ring event, and last month over in Atlantic City she did it again by coming in at number two in the $365 buy in event. After becoming a pro player just 18 months ago and moving from Boston to Vegas, Freedman is making a name for herself on the WSOP circuit and is a player with a big future, or so it seems. This win also puts her in joint first place at the Bicycle Casino series, with the winner being crowned Casino Champion and winning entry into the $1 Million 2012-2013 WSOP Circuit National Championship. She has cashed a total of five times this season and there's a few fans out there that hope this former teacher can keep this outstanding run going.
